Latest NFL news around the league.

LATEST BREAKING NEWS

The Eagles are waiving former 1st round pick DE Derek Barnett, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This has been a move that has been expected for a while, as the Eagles’ defensive line is absolutely stacked, and Barnett played a role in the rotation. Why the team didn’t trade him to get something out of him, is beyond me, but now Derek will get another chance to be a full-time starter elsewhere.

The Washington Commanders have fired Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio after their 45-10 loss to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. The team also moved on from their DBs coach Brent Vieselmeyer. Maybe Head Coach Ron Rivera thinks that this move could save his job, but the team is likely going to move on from him at the end of the season. Rivera will take over the defensive play calling for now, though, per NFL Network.

A source told me that the Vikings signed former Browns WR Daylen Baldwin. Baldwin has been recovering from an injury and was waived by the Browns on August 4th. He worked out for Minnesota last week and signed on Wednesday, November 22nd.

The Green Bay Packers found a way to win on Thanksgiving without some star players such as RB Aaron Jones, Jaire Alexander, LB De’Vondre Campbell, and rookie TE Luke Musgrave. Green Bay defeated Detroit 29-22. The Packers move to 5-6 on the season and hand the Lions their third loss on the season in the NFC North rivalry. Detroit still stands first in the NFC North though at 8-3, while the Packers are third at 5-6, right above the Chicago Bears, who sit at 3-8.

The New York Jets add some help to their offensive line by activating veteran OL Duane Brown from IR, but this could be way too little, way too late. The Jets already have one of the worst-performing offensive lines, and offenses, in the league, and with their new starting QB in Tim Boyle, hope could either be restored or deflated more quickly. I’m not sure that Duane Brown and Tim Boyle could change the dynamic and performance of this team alone. Some big changes need to be made, and benching Zach Wilson is just the tip of the iceberg.

Some other major news around the league this week was the waiving of Colts former All-Pro LB Shaq Leonard. He went unclaimed off waivers and is now set to sign anywhere he’d like, as long as the offers come in, which they will. Several teams are expected to be showing interest, including the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
